1 Month of Freelancing Down

W-O-W.

The first month of freelancing has come and gone, and if we’re being completely honest — I didn’t even realize it. Time flies when you work for yourself I guess! These past 30+ days have been full of blessings, surprises and A LOT of learning curves.

For example, billing.

Asking for money is hard, but it gets a lot less hard when you need it to survive! Just kidding. One thing I took away from my first month is I just need to be more consistent in my scheduling of invoices. To combat this, I’ve been working on an rules for myself and clients, one of which including I will bill on the 1st and 15th of each month.

You also don’t realize how much self promotion your biz needs to continue to get exposure. I’m still learning how to balance this — I do social media promotion for myself, run a blog and a website (which is honestly feels like a full time job), oh also, I’m going to start sending out a newsletter! I’m aiming for them to be helpful. I’ve gotten a few suggestions on topics but I’m going to start with freelance info, tips + tricks and things to make life a little easier for the reader. My first one will contain 2020 trends in social media. If you’d like to sign up, you can do so at the bottom of this post! All that said, I like a challenge and have gotten a semi-successful system in place, dividing projects by days. Here’s my current schedule:

Mondays: Catchup! Check analytics and project status, then prioritize from there.

Tuesdays: Client Work

Wednesdays: Planning/Client Work

Thursdays: Client Work

Fridays: I wrap up loose ends but mainly focus on my business marketing and admin tasks.

This past month I’ve received more support than I could have ever imagined and have had the opportunity to work with some top-notch clients. I’ve definitely gotten to expand my portfolio and then some. Freelancing is no easy feat, but it’s rewarding. I’m still on the high, we’ll see if it’s still there come tax season.

Additionally, I’m excited to announce I’m a Main Dame for the Dames Collective Denver Chapter, launching February 2020! I am so excited to help lead Denver's newest girls club!

Now, the juicy deets — Dames offers a monthly and quarterly membership with twice-monthly events that are anything but awkward mixers. We can't wait to build a community of entrepreneurial women within Denver and get to collaborating. Seriously, I’m counting the days until February. Learn more about Dames Collective here.

This opportunity couldn’t have come at a better time — I’m new in town and I work from home, so any opportunity to get out there, network and develop my skills is almost a necessity for this extrovert.

The first month was a whirlwind, and I’d say I’m coming out with a W. Here’s to month 2 and many many more! 🥂
