Surviving a Colorado Winter: Skincare Edition

For those of you who don’t know me, I’m kind of a skincare addict. It’s cliché, I know, I blog and I love skincare just like everyone else — but just ask Matt and my Sephora status, I REALLY love and believe in a good skincare routine.

We moved from the desert to the mountains this past summer and I wasn’t expecting a huge change in my skin. Boy was I wrong! I’m not sure if it’s the altitude, the extra UV exposure or the fact that I literally live on the FRONT RANGE but my already dry skin became drier (if possible). The fact that it’s winter and COLD isn’t helping either.

Before you ask, yes I drink A TON of water and that’s absolutely my number one recommendation to keeping yourself and your skin hydrated. 💦 For myself, I find it’s easier to constantly keep drinking if I’m using a straw-type delivery method so I’d recommend investing in metal straws or a water bottle with a straw (this also makes it easier to drink when on the go or at the barn so you don’t get dirt or other matter near your aqua).

Lucky for my epidermis (and yours) I have an arsenal of my favorite products I use to combat frigid temps and altitude.

Lips

First, let’s talk lips.

No matter where I am in the world, I always seem to have dry lips. My absolute go-to lip product right now is the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask! I put it on right before bed and when I wake up it keeps my lips hydrated all day long. Of course, old habits die hard so I have a few lip products I like to use if I want to go for a glossy look or just want some extra hydration. I can’t say enough good things about Jo Malone Lip Conditioner and of course, you can’t go wrong with any balm by Glossier!

Coverage

Living in a higher altitude climate exposes you to more UV rays, so sunscreen is a must for this fair-skinned girl. For just a sunscreen, I love the Supergoop! Sunscreen Daily Moisturizer, it’s not greasy, SPF 40+, doesn’t stink and goes on easily under my makeup. If you’re looking for a all-in-one product, I’m LOVING the Lune+Aster CC Cream from Bluemercury. It not only offers 50+ SPF protection, it goes on so smoothly and makes my dry skin dewy and smooth every time. It’s also easy to build on if you like more coverage than a regular CC cream offers!

Nighttime

I swear by Youth To The People. Their Superberry Hydrate + Glow Cream Mask is a staple in my nighttime regimen. Not only does it have anti-aging properties but it is so hydrating. Did I mention it smells delicious?

Anytime

The SUMMER FRIDAYS Jet Lag Mask is my favorite to use when traveling or when my face just needs an extra hydration boost. I usually put it on before a flight and then the evening after. It goes on clear and it’s gentle enough to leave on overnight or even as a primer!

As a classic dry-skin type, I’m always on the hunt for clean and hydrating products. If I’m missing out on anything, let me know! Enjoy!!

Xx Caroline
