That One Time I Worked at the NFR
Throughout my short career, I’ve arguably had access to the best seats in the house to capture great social content.
I’ve held passes to the backside at million-dollar horse races and even snagged a spot on the rail to watch the top horses in the world compete at the Breeders Cup. I’ve even been in strict hospital areas during the pandemic grabbing state-of the-art PPE decontamination process footage. Never doubt the negotiating skills of a social media professional or the importance of behind the scenes content!
Even with my past event coverage experiences highlighted on my résumé — never did I ever think I’d be on the dirt watching the National Finals Rodeo, let alone working at it. The 10 days I spent covering NFR 2020 is what I tell people was simply the coolest experience ever.
HOW
I honestly keep asking myself this.
I was pinching myself the whole time. The backstory is an internet friend I connected with through Annelle + James (curated by another Internet friend, Lauren) shared on Instagram that she had a friend looking for some NFR coverage help. Say no more. I reached out immediately. I was connected to the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association), met with them on Zoom and then boom, a few weeks later I was in Arlington. Moral of my story? Connect, connect CONNECT — you never know where your DMs might lead you!
WHY
This was my third NFR, but my first in Texas and my first time earning (not just spending) money there. I’m really just a huge fan of rodeo and if you’ve ever been to the NFR, you’ll know why. They don’t call it the “Super Bowl” of rodeo for nothing.
WHAT
PRCA social media coverage assistance. Instagram is my niche, so the feed and Instagram stories are where you found me! I love that you can connect and engage with fans real-time, so it was a perfect place to show some behind the scenes action while they could watch the rounds on TV.

NOW
Since I’ve peaked I’m retiring.
Just kidding. Horses are expensive.
I would absolutely do it again in a heartbeat and even if I don’t get afforded the same opportunities next year, I will always be tight with the great crew I worked with and you’ll most definitely find me watching as a fan in Vegas!
Questions? Send ‘em my way. 🤠
