Hashtag Freelancer
Freelancer.
I think hearing that word for some people makes their skin crawl, to others, they feel a rush of pity, like being a freelancer is a bad thing. There’s a funky stereotype around the word, and I’m not sure why.
I’m a freelancer, and it’s by choice. I like it. Scratch that, LOVE it. I’m a freelancer that also has a great full-time job, but I like freelancing because it makes me think outside of the box, to use my passion and what I’m good at to assist others. My freelance services have been offered for the past 3 years (hashtag what) and have evolved from research and content creation to more design and digital marketing. My recent freelance portfolio includes:
Web design and consultation for a retail company
Content creation for a private grain company
Web and graphic design for Junior Livestock Shows
Graphic design and consulting for a Beef Cattle Operation
Graphic design for a Healthcare organization
That there is a pretty diverse group for a suburban girl with an agricultural communications degree (I’m thinking about doing a post on agcomm, thoughts?) and I DIG IT. Through *mostly* word of mouth prior to 2019, I built and established unique relationships working on different projects for each of my clients. And it’s awesome.
We live in 2019 where as long as the WiFi is strong, you can work and communicate from anywhere, so what’s so bad about picking up some extra projects for yourself and sharpening your skills? Maybe the title freelancer isn’t so scary after all.
Proud freelancer, over and out.
